Programs

Civic Engagement

Our Board leadership, along with the Technical Committee, routinely engage with the City of San Antonio staff, our District 1 Council representative, Bexar County representatives, and State representatives, as well as other neighborhood associations. This helps ensure awareness and timely response to issues impacting our neighborhood, providing input to long-range planning, and maintaining vital community relationships.

Community Events

Our Arts Committee organizes events throughout the year. Long-running annual events include PorchFEST, Neighborhood Night Out, and our Holiday Party; as well as movie screenings, historical park tours, and potluck picnics. Join our e-mail list (Contact Us tab at the top of page) or our Facebook group to keep up to date on the latest events. You can also check our Event Calendar.

Pat Clayworth Scholarship

AVNA provides a $500 Scholarship to San Antonio College (SAC) students who graduated from an San Antonio Independent School District (SAISD) high school.  The Pat Clayworth Scholarship memorializes a terrific Mark Twain Middle School (now Mark Twain Dual-language Academy) teacher who died in 2001. The fund is held in trust and managed by the Alamo Colleges Foundation (ACF). ACF, in conjunction with Alta Vista representatives, selects the highest performing students that meet the AVNA criteria based on the student’s grades and essay. The $500 award is paid directly to SAC.

Fund Raising

AVNA is reliant on the support of our residents to fund programs. The bulk of our funding consists of your annual membership fee of $15 per person, $30 per couple, or $35 per business. Occasionally, AVNA will initiate a community-wide fund raiser on an as needed basis. You can become a member by using this link: Join or Donate.

Enhancing Livability

AVNA is committed to making Alta Vista a great place to live and do business. This includes:

  • Identifying issues affecting the character and integrity of our neighborhood. The City of San Antonio 311 Mobile App can link residents with a variety of city services such as pot hole repair, missed refuse collection, or graffiti. Use the link above to download the app from Google Play or the Apple Store.
  • Working to address concerns about criminal activity. The City of San Antonio has a San Antonio Fear Free Environment (SAFFE) Unit. If you have questions or concerns, please contact our dedicated SAFFE Officer, Jesus Hinojosa, jesus.hinojosa@sanantonio.gov.
  • Working with Animal Care Services (ACS) and District 1 to address concerns with nuisance and feral animals. ACS can also provide a wealth of information on other related resources in the local area. Our dedicated District 1 ACS Officer is Adán Pérez, adan.perez@sanantonio.gov.
