At the October 11 General Assembly, returning CEO of the theatre at San Pedro Springs Park Asia Ciaravino spoke about the future of the playhouse. Like many organizations, it saw serious setbacks during the pandemic, including leadership turnover and funding shortfalls.

Asia informed the gathering that they would be returning to the name San Pedro Playhouse (after a brief stint as The Public Theater). They have leased the 60-seat cellar theatre to The Classic Theatre troupe. (Incidentally, does anyone else remember when the playhouse was called San Antonio Little Theatre and the downstairs was called the SALT Cellar?) They also anticipate selling the former Pho Sure building, so potential buyers take note.

The theatre has several classic and original plays upcoming, including A Christmas Carol, Westside Story, and Midsummer Sueno, and English-Spanish retelling of A Midsummer Night’s Dream. You can see more about tickets and other information at https://thepublicsa.org/.

To support the revitalization of the theatre, which has survived the Great Depression, two World Wars, and now a global pandemic, a motion was made to donate $200, and the motion was approved by members present. For those wanting to add their support, there is an upcoming gala, dance party, and raffle; more information is here: https://thepublicsa.org/curtainup/.
